Offshore Action most productive!

GORDO BANKS PANGAS
July 5th, 2026

Productivity and good action continue to show offshore, which makes it the best option if you are after tuna, wahoo, dorado, and marlin. Many boats tried our high spots from Vinorama to Iman, though there was not much to report as we continue to see shark infested waters most days. While covering these grounds with Rapalas and Ballyhoo, some lucky boats were able to land one or two wahoo in a morning outing. These wahoo were small to medium size, most of them in the 18-to-25-pound range.

We also saw a handful of medium size dorado in the mix. The boats that tried for wahoo throughout these grounds, then finished off the day targeting Roosterfish inshore. Roosterfish action continues to be decent throughout the shorelines next to our marina and La Laguna/ Punta Gorda/ Zacatitos areas. A good area has also been the Hotel corridor, especially the trailer park area (in front of Honda Dealership). Surprisingly, we haven’t seen many Roosters in the 50+ range as we did last year. The bigger size Roosters (30+) continue to show at the shorelines of San Luis.

We did not see many of the bigger 100+ tuna this week, though we did see more consistency on the medium 40 to 80 pounders.

Most of these tuna were caught offshore while looking for porpoise schools. Many of these tuna were caught on poppers. On most days, we start to see some action around the 20 to 25 mile mark. The 1150 Bank continues to be one of the most productive areas as we are also seeing an occasional big dorado and wahoo while trolling lures and ballyhoo. On Tuesday, one boat reported loosing a couple nice wahoo to sharks out there, though it appears that not many other boats had issues with sharks this day. This boat landed 1 nice wahoo and lost 4 others (2 to sharks). They hooked these wahoo on marlin lures and ballyhoo.

Blue marlin in the 200-to-300-pound range continue to make a presence as we hear reports of a handful hooked every day.

Not much bottom action to report at this time. One of the pangas landed a handful of small snapper and grouper earlier in the week throughout rock structures at Cardon and La Fortuna (close to shore). These fish were caught on cut up caballito/green jacks.

Good Fishing, Brian
