Spotty Tuna Bite; Bottom and Inshore Action Picking Up!

GORDO BANKS PANGAS
February 22nd, 2026

Typical February patterns continue as we see lighter crowds of anglers, cycles of winds predominantly from the north, cooling ocean temperatures and scattered fishing action. Water temperatures ranged from 72 to 76 degrees across most fishing grounds towards the North. We did see warmer water (75-76) at Gordo and surrounding areas, though there was not much to report there.

We started the week of strong on Monday and Tuesday with good tuna and bottom action in the areas of Vinorama and San Luis. Most of these tuna were caught on live and dead sardines, a handful on live caballito. These tuna were small to medium size, ranging anywhere from 5 to 60 pounds. On Tuesday, many of our boats came in with 5 to 10 tuna each, all decent size. Within the same area, a few boats also landed nice amberjack, grouper and a variety of snapper (red, yellow, spotted-rose, and barred pargo). One of the amberjack caught was close to 70 pounds! The amberjack, grouper, and red snapper came on jigs. The other variety of snapper came mostly on sardines. After Tuesday’s great day, things took a quick turn.

Wind picked up significantly Tuesday around midday and it seemed to change conditions for the remainder of the week. Action was slow throughout the rest of the week. The fleet continued catching tuna at Iman, though the bite was very spotty; most of the tuna caught came later in the morning, around 11ish. Many boats were not able to land a tuna on their outing, a few boats were able to land 1 or 2 a day (if lucky). A handful on white

We did not see many dorado this week; the ones caught were in the same area while looking for tuna. On average, we saw 1 or 2 dorado come in daily between our combined fleet. Billfish also continue to be more prevalent on the Pacific side of Cabo San Lucas, only a few striped marlin are being found on the grounds off of San Jose del Cabo.

The highlight of the week is that we continue to see more bottom and inshore action. Many boats have started fishing rock piles throughout Palmilla Point and Cerro Colorado for amberjack and grouper. No yellowtail were reported this week. We are also seeing more Spanish mackerel (Sierra) and Roosterfish throughout various shorelines. This Sunday, many pangas reported good Sierra action at Cardon, 25, and La Fortuna.

Spotty Tuna Bite; Bottom Action More Productive!

GORDO BANKS PANGAS
February 15th, 2026

We are seeing large crowds of anglers and their families arrive to the Los Cabos area for President’s week.

This week, we focused more on the area of Iman and Vinroama. Earlier in the week, we were seeing good tuna numbers; most strikes coming on live sardines, some on live caballito or strips of squid. These tuna are small to medium size, ranging anywhere from 5 to 60 pounds. Some days, the bite came later in the morning, closer to noon. A few local pangeros did good on afternoon trips.

Within the same area, we saw a lot of white skippies and white bonita as well. On Tuesday, one boat at Vinorama had 8 small tuna, 10+ bonita, 10+ skipjack, 1 amberjack, 1 grouper, 1 snapper, and 3 nice dorado, good eating bag! The dorado came on live sardines and caballito, the rest of the species on jigs (even the tuna!). This Vinorama bite slowed down throughout the end of the week as we experienced a windy Saturday that mixed up and cooled the water in some areas. Sunday was even slower for tuna; most boats had to look for bottom or inshore action. We did see more snapper, grouper, and amberjack this Sunday.

The dorado bite has been slower this week as well. Most of the dorado caught came while drifting or slow trolling bait for tuna.

The sardine supply was decent this week, though some days we were waiting 30 minutes to an hour to get some dines. The highlight was bigger size sardines in the mix (we hadn’t seen them this size in over 6 months). The sardines are netted in front of Secrets and Marriott Hotels. The bait guys have also been netting caballito within the dock areas inside the marina.

Not much action to report at the Inner and Outer Gordos. Many boats did put in full days, though were not successful. Only a handful of boats landed nice size tuna (50 to 80 pounds) and striped marlin.

The bottom bite was slow for most part of the week; we started to see more action towards the weekend. We are most likely going to be focusing on bottom structures starting next week. Many boats covered different rock structures at Vinorama, San Luis, Iman, La Fortuna, 25, and Cardon. We did see a handful of nice amberjack, snapper, grouper, and 1 yellowtail.

Good Dorado Action; Spotty Tuna Bite!

GORDO BANKS PANGAS
February 8th, 2026

We continue to see good production throughout fishing grounds closer to shore and Inner/Outer Gordos.

The dorado bite has been good most days as most boats are able to land their limits (2 per license). For dorado, boats are covering the grounds from Iman to Punta Gorda with rigged ballyhoo, lures/feathers, and caballitos. Best overall action came from 25 and Cardon. Towards the end of the week, a few boats found good tuna schools at Cardon on live sardines. Most of these tuna were small to medium size, ranging anywhere from 5 to 45 pounds. A handful of these tuna were also hooked on Rapalas while looking for a wahoo strike. Only one wahoo was brought in this week, hooked on a rigged ballyhoo. A couple of boats did report getting a few other wahoo strikes, though they were not able to land them. White bonita made a presence while covering ground on Rapalas and bottom structure with jigs. Some snapper, grouper, and amberjack were also picked up while jigging, though we are still not seeing good numbers, only a handful of bottom fish a day.

We had live sardines all week, though the supply has been low; the sardines are netted in front of Secrets and Marriott Hotels. Caballito supply has been much better. Bait guys have been netting caballito within the dock areas inside the marina.

The tuna bite at Inner and Outer Gordos has been spotty most days, though we are seeing quality fish from these areas every day. If you put in the time, and have plenty of bait to chum with, it has paid off. On Thursday, one of the pangas landed 4 tuna, one of them weighing 112 pounds, the other 3 averaging 45 to 50 pounds. These tuna have been hooked on live bulito, strips of squid or skipjack, sardines, and caballito; we are seeing most hook ups on strips of squid. Within this area, we also saw some big bulls and a handful of striped marlin.
