GORDO BANKS PANGAS
January 4th, 2026
As kids go back to school next week, we are starting to see slow tourism activity in the Los Cabos area. The weather continues to be ideal for fishing and beach activities; mornings in the mid 60s and warm days in the low 80s. We are expecting a bit cooler weather next week.
We continue to see good tuna and dorado action from La Fortuna, Cardon, and Punta Gorda. We are hooking these tuna and most of the dorado while slow trolling live caballitos and sardines. This weekend, many boats tried small strips of squid, and they had good action on it as well. We have seen a good supply of caballito this week inside the marina channel, most of them small to medium size, perfect for the smaller tuna and dorado. Not many boats waited for sardines as they were coming in from Palmilla area later in the morning. Most of the tuna seen in these areas closer to shore are averaging 5-10 pounds, though we did see a few in the 30–40-pound range. Most of the dorado are in the range of 15-25 pounds. Many of these dorado were also hooked while fast trolling rigged ballyhoo and lures.
More wahoo were caught this week. These wahoo mostly came from La Fortuna, 25, and Cardon on XRaps and Nomad DTXs.
We are seeing good productivity from Inner and Outer Gordo, very similar situation to last week. Many of the local pangeros also went out in the afternoon and were successful. We are seeing a handful of big tuna every day, both a morning and after on bite. The smallest tuna caught in these areas this week was around 120 pounds. The biggest tuna was landed on Saturday by Captain Freddy, 275 pounds. We are slow trolling live bulito and small skipjacks to target them.
On Saturday night, Captain Carlos came in with a 470 pound black Marlin. Unfortunately, the Marlin died after a 3 hour fight. This fish was hooked at around 3:00 pm on a live bulito while looking for a big yellowfin. They landed it on 100# fluoro.
Good Fishing, Brian
