GORDO BANKS PANGAS
May 24th, 2026
We are starting to feel the heat and humidity creep in! Foot traffic at the marina improved as a result of the ongoing tuna bite. Surprisingly, the live sardine supply was consistent all week, decent size baits too. The tuna bite towards Vinorama and San Luis was hot all week, especially this weekend. Most of these tuna were in the 10–20-pound range, though we did see many in the 30-pound class. While slow trolling or drifting live sardines for tuna, a handful of nice size dorado were also caught. One small wahoo was caught on a live sardine as well.
Sharks and Sea Lions were a nuisance this weekend. This Sunday, most boats averaged 9-10 tuna on a morning outing, while still losing close to the same amount to Sharks and Sea Lions.

Nice size dorado (18 to 30 lb) and wahoo (35 to 50 lb) were caught covering the grounds of Vinorama to Inner Gordo on rigged ballyhoo, lures/feathers, and Rapalas. Wahoo numbers were not great, though we did see a couple every day at the fillet tables.

The highlight of the week was a massive 119-pound wahoo caught by Captain Modesto Miranda. This fish was hooked trolling live skipjack at the Gordo. This is probably one of the biggest wahoo we have seen brought in at our marina!
We also saw decent marlin action offshore. Again, the best action seems to be coming from the 1150 Bank and its surrounding areas. More dorado were reported while looking for marlin on lures and ballyhoo, most of them in the 30-to-40-pound range. This Sunday, one of the pangas caught and released 2 striped marlin, landed two big 40-pound dorado and lost one big wahoo close to the boat.
Not much bottom action to report at this time. Only a few boats tried, though they reported strong currents at most fishing grounds. We continue to see nice size Roosterfish and Jacks throughout our shorelines. These were caught on live caballito and green jacks, some of the smaller ones came on live sardines. A few sierra were also caught on live sardines while looking for roosters.
Good Fishing, Brian
