GORDO BANKS PANGAS
May 17th, 2026
Having live sardines makes a big difference! We had more foot traffic at our marina due to the action-packed week. The bait guys were able to consistently net dines throughout the shorelines next to our marina, as well as caballito and green jacks inside the marina, close to the dock structures.
Water temp readings were 80-81 degrees most of the week. The tuna bite was good throughout Vinorama, San Luis, Iman, and 25. Best action came from Vinorama and San Luis. Most of these tuna came on live sardines, averaging 10-20 pounds. We did see a handful of tuna in the 30–40-pound class within the same areas. Some days, boats were able to land their limits on a morning outing (5 per license).
We did have shark problems most days, though hard to control as they seem to be spread across all fishing grounds. While slow trolling or drifting bait for tuna, some dorado were caught as well.
Nice size sailfish were also caught while trolling rigged ballyhoo. Surprisingly, we accounted for 9 sailfish this week, all of them caught and released. We always encourage the safe release of these species as they are unique and we are seeing less every year.

After catching enough tuna for dinner, many boats trolled ballyhoo and Rapalas for wahoo and dorado as they headed back to the marina. Some lucky boats were successful to land both.
This weekend, we heard reports of nicer size wahoo (30+ lbs.) caught at the Inner Gordo on X-Raps, Nomad DTXs, and ballyhoo. On Saturday, one boat had 4 wahoo at this site; the next day, this same boat had 3.
Close to shore, we continue to see good Roosterfish and Jack action, mostly on live caballitos and green jacks. A handful of big Sierra were also caught this way.
Striped Marlin continue to bite offshore on lures, ballyhoo, and live caballito/green jacks. Most of the marlin action is coming from the 1150 Bank and its surrounding areas.
Good Fishing, Brian
