GORDO BANKS PANGAS
June 21st, 2026
Happy Father’s Day!
We continue to see more numbers of traveling families in the Los Cabos area as the majority of school semesters are now in summer recess. Weather patterns make it a perfect time to visit now (before it gets too hot and humid), with mostly clear sunny skies, high temperatures nearing 90 degrees, but still bearable. Water temperatures cooled off a few degrees, especially offshore as a result of strong south winds last week. This change in water temp had a big impact as we saw great action throughout the week, especially this weekend. While covering ground offshore, most captains reported good action in 78-to-80-degree water.
Most boats focused their time offshore looking for porpoise and trolling lures at the 1150 Bank and its surrounding areas. Surprisingly, action was found not as far out as expected, most days seeing action within 20-22 miles from our marina. Earlier in the week, action was more towards Vinorama to Iman grounds offshore, where porpoise schools were spotted daily. Most of the tuna earlier in the week were averaging 70 to 100 pounds.
As the week progressed, the best action was reported closer to the 1150 Bank, bigger fish too! A few boats did good on poppers when finding the right porpoise schools, though the bigger fish came on live bait, mostly caballitos and green jacks. Some boats came across schools of small skipjack, which also came in handy.
The biggest tuna of the week came in early this Sunday, weighing 282 pounds. This fish was caught by the Castillo’s brothers (Jaqueline Team) on a live caballito. Great fight on 60# test and 80# fluoro.
Big dorado and nice size wahoo were also caught while covering ground offshore. We saw a handful of dorado in the 40 to 50 pound range.

Inshore action was good as well. We continue to see good action throughout the shorelines next to our marina on live caballito and green jacks. However, the bigger roosters have been spotted towards San Luis shorelines. Earlier in the week, one boat caught and released 10 Roosters, all over 18 pounds and many of them in the 25–30-pound range.
One the way back, this same boat trolled lures a few miles offshore from our marina and hooked into 3 sailfish at the same time. They were able to catch and release 2 of these successfully.
While waiting for boats to come in, our main fillet guy Alberto caught a 28-pound snook from the channel area inside the marina!
Good Fishing, Brian
